The Cost of Sexual Lust
We live in a fallen world. Everything is so messed up. We wake up every day to shocking news of all kinds & that shows our desperate need of a Savior!
It gets more heated when it comes to sexual lust in this age. We are living in a time where it is 'abnormal' to wait till marriage to indulge in any intimacy! The media portrays this easy life, where marriage is not important so long as two 'consensual adults' prefer to live together & indulge in any immorality of all kinds! Friends are not helping as they keep asking you when you'll 'actually have fun'.
It'a a sick world, right?
God has indeed given us our free will but we are not exempted from its consequences. Whatever choice we make has results & thus, He wants us to make the best choice in all we do. In giving us this choice, He has given us a code of conduct- His eternal Word!
He offers us every guidance we would ever need in our journey through life. And this includes the code of our sexual conduct.
As Zac Poonen puts it, "God gave us our sexual urges at an early stage, not because He wanted to lure us to defile ourselves but to know those who fear Him"! That couldn't be far from the truth. When He formed man & gave him woman,He knew this need & hence, instituted marriage.
However, many men & women of old have paid dearly for not following God's code of conduct regarding sex. We are all familiar with the story of David and other men who defiled themselves with women. The end results were never good. We then see what an uncontrolled sexual lust can do. In Genesis 34 &38, 2 Samuel 11&13, we read of how uncontrolled sexual lust led to many troubles in families & among siblings. It is certainly not something to joke with.
It grieves the Holy Spirit, alienates us from God and makes us exposed to the wiles of the devil. It makes us reel in guilt even after we know Abba has forgiven us. It ruins our reputation & destroy relationships of all kinds. The urge to masturbate, indulge in passionate affections & premarital sex, if not controlled, will land us in damages that may be undone. If we are to win this battle of sexual lust, then we must examine the causes- is it some filthy conversations we indulge in?, some porn videos on our phones, laptops, etc?some sensual music or movies? Some thoughts we imagine?,etc. When we identify these sources, we gain a better ground to fight the enemy & guard our purity with all diligence. Hebrews 13:4 says " Marriage is honorable among all & the bed undefiled but the sexual immoral & adulterers, God will judge"
God cannot tempt us,(1 Corinthians 10:13, James 1:13-15), He only gives us grace to overcome whatever comes our way. We should be bold in guarding our purity just like Joseph did( Genesis 39:7-23) and became victorious.
1 Thessalonians 4:1-7, Romans 12:1-2, 1 Corinthians 6:15-20, 1 Timothy 4:12 all encourage us to fight sexual lust and live to please Abba with our bodies and all we do. But if we refuse to heed His Word, then we shall be cut from His glorious inheritance( 1 Corinthians 6:9-13, Galatians 5:19-21)
Let's not allow the enemy to wreck our lives. May we be used as vessels of honor to the Lord( 2 Timothy 2:19-22).
