With the discovery of a new COVID-19 Variant, the world is on its reels again. Countries have moved again to impose ban on travel, not only are businesses at risk but the heartbreak of being separated from loved ones. According to the Voice of America,many stocks sank on Friday amidst fears of the spread of the new variant. Is there ever an end in sight of this pandemic?
Like many who are spiritual and attribute certain happenings to a being bigger than us, I have many moments lately where I reflect on my beliefs as a Christian. A facebook friend who hold dearly on his Christian faith lost his beloved wife to a respiratory illness. If he had his own way, I'm sure he would have given everything to save her. Over a month ago, we lost a colleague at work. She had gone to deliver her first child and even though she brought forth life, she lost hers- a loss we are still grieving.
The world is in pain. We try to put up happy faces and run to the nearest bookshops for self-help books which promises to make us feel better yet these happy feelings are temporary and we look for the next thing to fill the vacuum we feel! The cycle seems not end.
For the Christian, the world will not be like this forever. The day is coming where all God will wipe away the tears and make all things anew. Our hope is not in the world economies and the plethora of promises by world leaders to make things better. It is not in the long term investments locked up on some shores or banks.
Our hope is in the promises that God has given us in His Word- the hope we can vouch for, one we can be confident in.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. There will be no mourning, crying, or pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” — Revelation 21:4
For now, we will not look at the world through the lens of those who cannot give us the satisfaction we desperately look for. Our eyes will be on our God, His promises will not fail. We know until the end, He is with us. Yes, though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, we will not fear evil. He is our very refuge in trouble, a tower where we are kept safe.
Here's your hope and encouragement for the day; Psalm 46.
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see what the Lord has done,
the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.
